The Linen Gown design takes its cue from the traditional Japanese kimono, which translates as ‘thing to wear’ – and if there were ever a thing to wear, this would be it!

The perfect bathroom or wardrobe addition made from 100% pure linen. A timeless choice that will last for years, and soften and gain character with age and use.

It’s loose unisex design features generous sleeves and tie-around sash. Linen, one of the oldest used fibres in the world, has long been admired for it’s beautiful drape and natural lustre, but it’s the soft feel and texture to skin that is linen fabric’s main allure. Lightweight and breathable, linen never clings to the body. It is cool and absorbent, and you’ll never feel clammy when wrapped in linen.

Wooed by your linen gown, we think there’s a good chance you’ll want to be engulfed by linen for more of your day.

Mungo's linen is grown in the fields of Europe, where the climate and soil is best suited to flax cultivation, and spun by the Italian Master Spinners, Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale. With over a century of experience, Linificio has built a reputation for producing an elegant natural material with integrity and flair. From there, the yarn wings its way to the Mungo mill in Plettenberg Bay,
where it is carefully warped, woven, pressed and packed into perfection.

A refined natural material, linen is loved for the world over for its breathability and unmatched feel on the skin. Inherently luxuriously, subtly lustrous and with a handle that develops its character over time.

  • About The Brand

The story begins with just two old antique looms that Master Weaver Stuart Holding came into possession of. He used these looms to weave limited runs of beautiful homeware textiles from what he called his ‘working weaving museum’ – an old barn where passersby could watch him work.

Today, guided by a mission "to create heirloom-quality woven goods with integrity in an open and transparent manner", the Mungo team operate South Africa’s first GOTS-certified textile weaving mill on the grounds of Old Nick Village, near Stuart’s original barn, where the entire mill is open to the public. Mungo Textiles also gives back 1% of their annual turnover to a number of social & environmental initiatives via their purpose-built MOVE programme.
