Currently in India, there are over 600,000 cooperatives with 240 million members where producers are trapped in exploitative cycles of poverty. Many of these craftsmen are women who are working to support their families, but only receiving a fraction of the profits.
Cloth and Co. works with these women at a grass-roots level to create high-quality, hand-crafted products to help them achieve financial independence while preserving traditional craft techniques. Every item in their collection is made from 100% natural materials and fully biodegradable - allowing them to be recycled, repurposed or decomposed.
Their Pondicherry Striped Table Cloths are made from 100% GOTS certified, organic cotton, and have been hand-loomed by a cooperative of traditional women weavers living in the foothills of Southern India’s Tamil Nadu. Many of these women have little to no education and come from Dalit communities where they have been cruelly excluded from their communities due to the Hindu caste system. Despite these hardships, they have found strength in weaving.
These particular table cloths have been woven by Sublaxmi, who lives in a small village outside Madurai. Through her skills and earnings, she is now able to support her family and put her children through school.
Available in small, medium and large sizes and four colour options.
