The unique feature of Mungo's antique looms is their shuttles. Inside each shuttle lies the yarn-wound pirn, which carries the weft threads across the warp. Pirns are loaded onto the shuttles via a magazine, before being fed onto the loom.
In the case of the Linen Scarf, the pirns have been randomly loaded. This play is what gives the garment its unusual appeal, creating a unique combination of colours in the weft.
The result is that no two scarves are alike, and each one bears the creative hand of the weaver.

Flax yarn has an unmatched breathability. Cosy in winter, yet lightweight and breathable in summer.
Linen‘s natural crushed creases add texture and charm. With a handle that maintains its integrity with wear.
Mungo's linen yarn is sourced from Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale – a company based in Bergamo, Italy, that has been in the business of spinning top-quality linen yarn since 1873. As an OEKO-TEX-certified producer, in LCN we found an ethos that matched their own – a commitment to exceptional quality and sustainable production.
All Mungo products are carefully designed and individually woven on refurbished looms at the Mungo Mill in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

About The Brand
The story begins with just two old antique looms that Master Weaver Stuart Holding came into possession of. He used these looms to weave limited runs of beautiful homeware textiles from what he called his ‘working weaving museum’ – an old barn where passersby could watch him work.
Today, guided by a mission "to create heirloom-quality woven goods with integrity in an open and transparent manner", the Mungo team operate South Africa’s first GOTS-certified textile weaving mill on the grounds of Old Nick Village, near Stuart’s original barn, where the entire mill is open to the public. Mungo Textiles also gives back 1% of their annual turnover to a number of social & environmental initiatives via their purpose-built MOVE programme.
