  The 60-Second Daily Routine
  Your Shou Sugi Ban board's carbon surface naturally repels liquids - you'll see water bead up on the surface rather than soak in. This makes daily care remarkably simple:

  • Rinse with warm water - watch liquids bead and run off
  • Wash with mild soap and soft brush/cloth, working with the pronounced grain
  • Rinse thoroughly - the water-repelling surface speeds this process
  • Dry completely with a towel, then stand vertically to air dry

   

  Deep Maintenance
  Restore water beading and enhance your Shou Sugi Ban board's pronounced grain with seasonal deep maintenance. Professional techniques for home care.

  
  Monthly Oil Treatment: Maintaining Water Repellency
  The carbon surface's water-beading property is enhanced by proper oiling:

  • Clean Thoroughly - Remove all food particles from the pronounced grain texture
  • Dry Completely - Essential for oil absorption
  • Apply Oil Generously - The textured surface may need more than smooth boards
  • Let Penetrate - 2-4 hours or overnight
  • Buff Excess - Reveal the enhanced grain pattern
  • Oil Selection: Food-grade mineral oil or our specialised board oil blend. The carbon surface may initially absorb more oil - this is normal and beneficial.

   

  Quarterly Deep Conditioning - Every 3 months, give your board special attention to maintain its unique properties.
