The EDC One: An Adam Savage x Mafia Bags Collab
San Francisco || USA
The best bag for an adventure is one that’s already lived an adventurous life. So wherever the wind takes you next, escape with the EDC One by Adam Savage and Mafia Bags.
Former Mythbusters host and Tested.com editor in chief, Savage has designed the bag of his dreams. It's a bag reminiscent of the aluminium doctor's bags he built and used as a model maker in the film industry for 15 years. The EDC One also pays tribute to the Mcdivvitt Purse that accompanied Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 mission.
“I kept it simple, focusing on access to contents and durability. The color is chosen because I love NASA, but more importantly because all other tool bags are dark and that is wrong: I’ve spent too long not being able to find things at the bottom of my toolbags. This ends now.”
There is a genius in the understated design and clear focus on function and durability. But the real magic lies in the collaboration that underpins this project.
The crew at Mafia Bags have built a reputation for reimagining materials to impact the world for the better. The B Corp certified business run by Marcos and Paz Mafia launched in Buenos Aires in 2012. The brother-and-sister business partners fused their passion for nautical sports and sustainable business practices to create an accessories brand that upcycles discarded materials from the kitesurfing and windsurfing industry and beyond.
Made in the US, the bags are hand cut and hand stitched under fair working conditions. The EDC One is constructed primarily from upcycled and salvaged sailcloth. Every bag is unique and can be identified by a handwritten serial number indicating the model and production number. They are also built to last (and avoid landfill!) and come - like all Mafia products - with a lifetime warranty.
The best bit? Savage Industries have democratised this bag. They also sell the EDC One plan and a DIY kit that make this brilliant design both accessible and affordable.
"The materials in your bag have already lived an adventurous life. Now it's your turn."
