Sofia Maria believes in conscious buying and making. All the materials she uses to handcraft her pieces are selected with special care and consideration.
A local approach means that all materials have been sourced locally in Australia and any job that she needs assistance with - like some stone settings - is practised by local Sydney jewellers. The gold plating service that she uses is not in Sydney, yet it is located in NSW.
All of her suppliers and helpers are located in Australia and she predominantly supports smaller female-owned businesses.
All pieces by Sofia Maria are custom-designed one piece at a time. Sofia doesn’t feel comfortable designing a whole collection and then adding lots of pieces to her store but rather slowly handmakes each piece to order.
Sofia sources all materials locally in Australia and makes every piece by hand in her studio located in Manly Beach.
MINIMAL WASTE + UPCYCLED
All Sofia Maria pieces are handcrafted out of 100% recycled metals. All the scrap metal that Sofia has at the end of the day is re-used for new designs.
Jewellery should be kept away from water and humid environments. Please store in a secure, dry place between wears.
Gold vermeil jewellery is gold plated sterling silver. As any plated piece, it is especially delicate, please keep away from perfume and any abrasive surfaces. Do not use jewellery cleaner on plated items, you can polish these pieces with a damp cloth. Add a mild soap only if necessary. Please be gentle.
Slight variances in colour or marks of age may be present in your jewellery. Please expect the colour, texture and tone of your piece to vary slightly from the items depicted in photographs. Every piece is unique.
Sterling silver requires less care, although it tarnishes when exposed to salty air, chlorine, household chemicals and products containing sulphur. To remove tarnish, Sofia Maria recommends a non-abrasive silver polish. Silver is a soft metal and may build character marks with wear.
Soft imperfections may occur in the final finish of Sofia Maria's items which is a characteristic of these handmade pieces.
Repairs (including re-plating) are accepted and are subject to a fee depending on the nature of the damage.
