About The Brand
Taught to be adventurous by her mum, Alex Jeffries and her sister once set off on their bicycles across Northern Africa, cycling unsupported across the Sahara Desert and through countries they’d never heard of. From a young age, Alex was deeply aware that not everyone has the same start in life and, travelling the world, found it hard not to notice how little others had.
Clutch for Humankind was created in 2020 after Alex, seeking a creative outlet, pulled out her sewing machine and became obsessed with capturing the beauty of street murals and graffiti and printing them onto silk.
These days, Clutch for Humankind prints images onto ethically sourced linen cotton with zero wastewater to avoid polluting our waterways, and the distinctive bags are made by a seamstress in Sydney whose eye for beautiful detail was shaped through Haute Couture training in Paris.

ARTISAN + AUSTRALIAN MADE
Clutch 4 Humankind is passionate about making unique statement clutches. Each clutch is custom-printed on linen-cotton with images inspired by the street. Bold, beautiful, and sometimes rebellious, they hope your oversize clutch makes you stand out and sparks a conversation (maybe one that matters).
Their gorgeous seamstress is Haute-Couture-trained. She's based in Sydney and passionate about making sure their clutches are beautiful and, of course, turned out perfectly.
They print their fabrics in Melbourne with a supplier aligned to their goal of having a transparent supply chain. Clutch 4 Humankind print their fabrics on ethically sourced linen-cotton which is certified by Ethical Clothing Australia. There is also zero waste ink during their printing process.
Clutch 4 Humankind are currently partnering with Ugandan Photographer Brian Odwar and his wife Ann. Brian grew up like millions of others, on the streets, eating out of rubbish bins. Ann is featured on their 'Ann' Clutch and, up until the end of May 2021, has received 100% of the profit from sales of this clutch. It's literally been Clutch 4 Humankind's best seller. They're now changing it up to donate 10% of the profit from each bag sold across their range.
The ink used on Clutch 4 Humankind's clutches is designed for gentle hand washing in cold water. However, they do not recommend completely immersing the clutch in water as the different layers of the bag may have different shrinkage rates and this could cause your clutch to become mis-shapen. Shrinkage of the linen is up to 3%.
For small marks, Clutch 4 Humankind recommend sponging your clutch gently with a damp cloth and leaving it to dry completely. Be careful to avoid harsh rubbing and wringing of the fabric which may be damaging to the fabric and the shape of the clutch.
In the worst case scenario (such as you spill red wine on your clutch), you could immerse that part of the clutch in cold water and gently squeeze water through the fabric - please note this is untested and you do this at your own risk!
Pull back into shape and dry flat. Warm iron with a protective cloth over the surface - do not apply the iron directly to the print. Dry clean using Hydrocarbon (perc free).
